Weekly Challenge - “E”

One-Legged King Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana)

Eka Pada Rajakapotasana is a fun name to try to say. Also, it’s a pose that works pretty much everything! This pose can be taken lying down for some great Yin yoga hip-opening. It can be done seated or using a wall. It can incorporate chest opening/back bending like you see above! This pose looks scary, but if you work slowly into different phases of the pose, it can be amazing!

It is very important to be mindful of your knees, hips, and lower back! Bringing the heel closer to your groin will reduce strain on your knee. If you’re taking the back bend, remember to keep your core engaged to help protect your lower back! If you feel like you’re straining anywhere, modify the pose. Also, because this is a side-specific pose, you’ll need to repeat the pose on the opposite side too!

Don’t be worried if this pose takes you a little more practice than others. Just keep working it into your practice and you’ll see/feel the improvements!
